Introduction

This document will help you get your Prinergy Evo Workflow software installed and configured to send output to your new Kodak CTP device. Please note that Evo 9 does not support Direct Output and we recommend TIFF workflow. Evo generates TIFF files and send over to Print Console/Xpo TIFF Downloader Hot Folders.

Before you start

Before you begin installing and configuring your Prinergy Evo Workflow software, you will need to provide an appropriate platform for it to run on.

Server Platform Requirements

Make sure the system you are installing Prinergy Evo Workflow on meets the following requirements. Prinergy Evo is supported on user-supplied platforms running Windows 10 Professional 64-bit on either dedicated hardware or within a virtualized operating environment.

    Note: It is your responsibility to acquire and install the number of Adobe Acrobat licenses needed for client workstations. To ensure that the Kodak plug-ins for Adobe Acrobat software can be copied into the correct folder during the installation process, install the Acrobat software

    Download the software install files

    You will need to download two files in order to install and configure your Prinergy Evo Workflow software.

    The first file is the software installer itself, which installs the Prinergy Evo Workflow server and client software on the platform that will be running the Evo Server. The Prinergy Evo Workflow installer software installer is available from here: <link>

    The second file is a set of preconfigured settings to enable you to work with your Prinergy Evo Workflow software to send output to your CTP output device. You can retrieve the settings file from here: <link>

    Download and save these two files to a location on the platform that you will be installing Prinergy Evo onto.

    Installing the Prinergy Evo Server software

    Running the Prinergy Evo Server installer

    RequirementsPrinergy Evo uses software License IDs based on your Prinergy Evo serial number. Before installing, make sure you have your License ID available, as the Prinergy Evo installer will require it during the installation process.  

    1. On the platform you will be installing Prinergy Evo onto, navigate to the folder you saved the Prinergy Evo Installer and configuration file to.
    2. From the folder, double-click the Prinergy Evo.exe file.
      The Prinergy Evo Setup dialog box appears.
    3. Click Install Prinergy Evo > Install Server.
      The InstallShield Wizard appears. 
    4. Click Next and follow the instructions in the wizard.
    5. For the licensing procedures, see Retrieving license keys.
    6. In the Service Account dialog box:
      1. Review the Account box, which defaults to the account you used to log onto the computer. Accept the default account or type a new account.
      2. In the Password box, type the account password.
      3. In the Confirm Password box, type the password again. This box is not displayed for software upgrades.
    7. Click Next and follow the prompts.
    8. At the final wizard dialog box, click Finish.
      The Prinergy Evo software starts and the Prinergy Evo Administrator dialog box appears.

    Applying license keys

    Online (automatic) license key retrieval

    Requirements

    When installing the Prinergy Evo Workflow 8.2 software on your primary server, the installer will display a licensing dialog box, already populated with your server's unique system ID.

    1. In the License ID box, enter your license ID.
      Note: Your License ID is the same as your Prinergy Evo Workflow serial number which takes the form EVxxxxx or EVxxxxx-xx. 
      • If you already have a Partner Place account, log on to Partner Place at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/. Navigate to Service & Support > Product Registration and License Activation > View registered products and select your site. A list of registered products will be shown, including the serial number for your Prinergy Workflow system (in the form EVxxxxx or EVxxxxxx-xx).

      • If you do not have a Partner Place account, but you have a support plan that entitles you to the Prinergy upgrade, you can register on Partner Place at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/. Then log on to Partner Place at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/. Navigate to Service & Support > Product Registration and License Activation > View registered products and select your site. A list of registered products will be shown, including the serial number for your Prinergy Evo Workflow system (in the form EVxxxxx or EVxxxxxx-xx). 

    2. In the Partner Place username box, enter your Partner Place user ID.
    3. Click License Key.
    4. Click Retrieve License. Your new license key is automatically retrieved from PLAS and your Prinergy Evo server will continue to contact the KODAK Product License and Activation System (PLAS) in the background on a regular basis to keep your system licenses up to date.

    Offline (manual) license key retrieval

    Requirements

    • A workstation or server that has Internet access

    • A Partner Place user ID

    If your Prinergy Evo server cannot access PLAS or does not have access to the Internet, you will need to download a license file from a workstation or server that has Internet access. When the Prinergy Evo installer detects that it is unable to contact PLAS, it will present you with a Software License dialog box that provides an opportunity to save an XML file containing the necessary information to generate a license.

    If your Prinergy Evo server cannot access PLAS or does not have access to the Internet, you will need to download a license file from a workstation or server that has Internet access. When the Prinergy Evo installer detects that it is unable to contact PLAS, it will present you with a Software License dialog box that provides an opportunity to save an XML file containing the necessary information to generate a license. 

    1. From the Prinergy Evo Setup Software License dialog box, click Browse to select a location for the XML request file, and click Save to save the file.
    2. Copy the XML file to another workstation that can access the PLAS server on the Internet. 
    3. From that workstation, connect to https://ecentral.kodak.com/productregistration/FileUpload.aspx and use the tools on that page to upload the XML file. PLAS will generate a new XML file that you can use to license your Prinergy Evo server. 
    4. Download and copy the new XML file to the Prinergy Evo server.
    5. Submit that file to Prinergy Evo by clicking the Load license key from file (manual/trial) button, then Browse to locate a license file, and then Read File. Multiple licenses may appear in the licensing dialog box. 
    6. Select the license you want to apply to the server, click Apply to install the license, then proceed with the upgrade installation.

    Purchased licenses will be automatically renewed on a regular basis. If the Prinergy Evo server is unable to reach PLAS for extended periods of time, it will begin notifying the system administrator two weeks before the base license is set to expire. If your internet connection cannot be restored within two weeks, retrieve an updated license file to renew the base license using the manual method.

    Purchased licenses will be automatically renewed on a regular basis. If the Prinergy Evo server is unable to reach PLAS for extended periods of time, it will begin notifying the system administrator two weeks before the base license is set to expire. If your internet connection cannot be restored within two weeks, retrieve an updated license file to renew the base license using the manual method.

    Installing the Prinergy Evo Client software on a Mac workstation

    You can install Prinergy Evo Client software from the PgyEvoInstll shared folder on the Prinergy Evo server computer

    Connect to the PgyEvoInstll Share on the Prinergy Evo Server from a Mac workstation

    Connect the Mac OS X 10.11 and later client computer to the Prinergy Evo server computer via SMB.  Limit the length of shared folder names when mounting to a Prinergy Evo client computer running Mac OS X via SMB. Use 12 characters or fewer with no spaces. Otherwise, you cannot select the shared folder and must type the path: smb://<servername>/<sharename>

    1. On the Mac OS X 10.11 or later Finder, from the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
    2. In the Address box, type the IP address or computer name of the Prinergy Evo server computer. 
      For example, to connect via SMB, type the name of the Prinergy Evo server computer, using this format: SMB://<servername>/
      For IP, enter: SMB://<ip address>/
    3. Click Connect.
    4. In the Name box, type a user name.
    5. In the Password box, type the password for the workgroup or domain and user name.
    6. Click Connect.
    7. From the list of shares, selectt: PgyEvoInstll
      Depending on your Finder preferences, the mounted Prinergy Evo server computer may appear as a shared folder icon appears on your Macintosh desktop

    Running the Prinergy Evo Client installer on a Mac workstation

    Use the same steps to install the Prinergy Evo Client software and Kodak plug-ins for Adobe Acrobat on Mac OS X 10.11, macOS 10.12, 10.13, or 10.14.

    1. On the Macintosh workstation, navigate to and open the PgyEvoInstll shared volume. 
    2. In the PgyEvoInstll window, open the Mac folder
    3. Drag the PrinergyEvoClientOSX.dmg file from the Mac folder to your Macintosh workstation's desktop to create a local copy.
    4. Double-click the PrinergyEvoClientOSX.dmg file that you copied.
    5. The Prinergy Evo Client disc image will mount and display a new window
    6. From the Prinergy Evo Client window, follow the instructions provided in the ReadMe files to install the Prinergy Evo Client software and the Prinergy Evo User Guide, plug-ins, and Prinergy VPS software. 
    7. Make sure Prinergy Evo Server software is running.
    8. Once the Prinergy Evo Client installer has completed, launch the Prinergy Evo Client software, to test

    Installing Kodak Remote Support System software

    Background

    The Kodak Remote Support System (RSS) is an infrastructure for connecting to and supporting Kodak customers’ equipment. RSS provides connectivity management, diagnostic tools, per-site equipment information, automated support tasks, and basic support management features. Kodak has used RSS to provide remote support since 2000. As technologies and Kodak products evolve, the RSS adapts to meet these changing needs.

    Kodak RSS VPN Connectivity

    RSS VPN is the latest secure broadband connectivity method to be added to Kodak RSS. It is the primary technology used for making remote connections. RSS VPN connectivity is a centrally-managed VPN solution dedicated for Kodak RSS use. RSS VPN is capable of establishing direct peer-to-peer authenticated and encrypted tunnels by automatically bypassing network address translations (NAT) and stateful firewall devices on the route between trusted peers. The result is a low-latency virtual network requiring few or no configuration changes to an existing network infrastructure. Additionally, RSS VPN is capable of establishing TCP relayed tunnels when the low-latency network requirements cannot be met. Kodak RSS VPN utilizes a third-party mediation service that is powered by LogMeIn® Hamachi. The service is managed by Kodak RSS; only RSS Client peers that Kodak has registered are deemed to be trusted and may communicate via the RSS Connector.

    The RSS VPN connectivity solution includes three main components: Kodak RSS Client Software, Kodak RSS Connector, and Kodak RSS Server.

    RSS Client Software is installed on customer servers and workstations. Its purpose is to communicate online status and availability to the RSS Connector, and to establish a secure tunnel with the RSS Server.

    RSS Connector tracks the RSS Client peers' locations (server and workstations running RSS Client Software) and provides the mediation services required for establishing direct peer-to-peer VPN tunnels between the RSS Client Software and the RSS Server. In rare cases where a direct peer-to-peer tunnel cannot be established, the RSS Connector is used to relay tunnels between the RSS Server and RSS Client Software.

    RSS Server is the software that service representatives around the world use to establish remote connections to supportable equipment. The RSS Server controls the management of VPN tunnels through a secure connection to the RSS Connector.

    How these components work together to provide a secure broadband connection?

    When the Kodak RSS Client Software is enabled on a peer, it establishes a connection to the RSS Connector, using the proprietary LogMeIn Hamachi Client Control protocol to authenticate and communicate its online status. Using RSS Server, a service representative must initiate a remote support connection to the RSS Client peer. At this point, the RSS Server communicates to the RSS Connector that the RSS Server and the RSS Client peer are to be joined in a secure trust relationship. Only then does the RSS Server and RSS Client build a secure encrypted (AES 256 bit) and authenticated VPN tunnel.

    RSS VPN Requirements

    System requirements: Kodak RSS Client Software is supported on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP Professional, Windows 7 Professional, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 10. The system must have a default gateway configured under the TCP/IP networking properties.

    Network requirements: The RSS Client peer must be on a network segment that has access to the public Internet. If the network uses a proxy server to access the Internet, RSS VPN traffic must be configured to bypass the proxy. This may require additional firewall rules and/or proxy configuration settings.

    Firewall requirements: The majority of firewalls do not require configuration changes for RSS VPN to operate. However, firewall configurations that explicitly block certain outbound ports require the services (protocols) that are described next to be permitted through the firewall.

    For customers with more stringent security environments, explicit firewall rules may be configured to only allow RSS Client peer VPN traffic to and from the worldwide RSS Servers and the RSS Connector (see the following table).

    • Client Control Protocol is responsible for three things: client/server communication, login, and NAT discovery. The protocol consists of four static ports (1 TCP, 3 UDP) and a range of UDP ports (see the following table). The RSS Client peers must have access to the RSS Connector’s ports using this protocol. An exception to the above port requirement is the ‘non low-latency’ TCP relayed configuration which uses a single TCP port (see the following table).

    • Transport Protocol is responsible for securely tunneling traffic between an RSS Client peer and the RSS Server. The transport protocol may be Transport—Direct (Client peer to RSS Server), or Transport— Relay (Client peer through RSS Connector to RSS Server). Direct tunnels use a static port at the RSS Server and Relay tunnels use a static port at RSS Connector. RSS Client peers must have access to the static UDP ports of the RSS Connector and all worldwide RSS Servers. An exception to the above port description is the ‘non low-latency’ TCP relayed configuration which uses a single TCP port.

    Download, Install, and Register RSS Client Software

    Your can download the RSS Client Software from https://ecentral.kodak.com/RSS and install it on Kodak supportable server and workstations systems that meet the requirements in this bulletin. After installing RSS Client Software, contact a service representative to complete the registration process and test RSS VPN.
